Historic District
- In 1980, the U.S. Secretary of the Interior listed the Clarkston Historic District on its National Register of Historic Places to acknowledge its well-preserved 1830’s mill-town character.
- Clarkston also has local historic district ordinance # 118, that designates a Historic District Commission, a group of five Clarkston citizens who review applications to approve or deny exterior changes to structures within the district in an effort to safeguard local heritage and elements that pertain to Clarkston’s history, architecture, archaeology, engineering or culture; to stabilize and improve property values in each district; and to foster civic beauty.
- The Clarkston Historic District Commission also strives to act as a preservation resource to the community, property owners and prospective property owners.
