29 South Holcomb St.

West side of street

This Greek Revival style house was built by 1856. It was the property of Henry Hirst who purchased the Clarkston mills in 1859.

The original sections of this house, a Midwestern adaptation of the Greek Revival style, were built by 1856. The owner, Henry Hirst /Hurst purchased the Clarkston mills property from Jeremiah III and Nelson W. Clark in 1859. Hirst/Hurst also owned the house at 76 N. Main from 1853 to about 1864 when his partner in the mills' property, Erastus Stiff, purchased that house. Like so many other early houses in the Village, built in the same style, the original section has a wide entablature with broken pediment gable on the street facing facade of the one & 1/2 story section with a single story wing to the south. The house was converted to two family use in the 1940s. In the 1980s a wing with garage was added to the west facade. At the same time, aluminum siding was applied over the clapboard. The original wood trim was left exposed.
