In Clarkston, Brokenshaw was a shoe & boot manufacturer. The 1872 map of the Village lists the business which is shown in a wooden building on the site of 21 S. Main, as Brokenshaw & Richardson. The Brokenshaw residence, 1862-1877, was 41 Buffalo. Richard served in the 8th Michigan Cavalry in the Civil War.
