Washington says the death of Sophia was not found in Oakland County records. Cemetery records also list one child of "Horatio & Sophia", Elizabeth, who died 11/18/1846, age 8 mos.11 days] .

  • 1860 census records listed Horatio as a 43 year old master harnessmaker, born in England. Wife, Elisabeth H., 31, born in England. Living in the same household were Frederick S., 18, born in Michigan; Maria,16, born in Michigan; Mary 10, born in Michigan; Roland, 8, born in Michigan; Eliza Urch, 16, a domestic, born in Pennsylvania and Maria Sabine, 73, born in England.
  • Horatio was one of Clarkston's earliest carpenters & harness makers credited with having the first harness shop on Main St. He built the 2nd schoolhouse the "Pinery School" in Independence Township on Section 29 in 1837. He was Justice of the Peace in 1850, 1854 & 1860; 1st Master of the Cedar Lodge N. 60; & Secretary of the Clarkston Union Cemetery.
