William came to the United States through Ellis Island to open a shoe service shop in Caro, Michigan. The shop was unsuccessful. He moved to Flint where he met Katie and worked in construction there. According to their daughter he lost everything in the Depression and went to live in Detroit where he had cousins. In 1934, William came to Clarkston to purchase the Fisher Shoe Repair business which occupied a space in a building on the east side of Main St. William purchased the building at 49 S. Main which was owned by Jasper Linabury. It was vacant and in a deteriorated condition. William improved the building using the north section for his home and the south section for his shop.
Daughter, Mary D., born December 13, 1918 in Flint, Michigan. In 1941 Mary graduated from the Saint Joseph Mercy nusing school in Pontiac. Mary was a 1st Lieutenant (according to her discharge certificate) in the Army from March 2, 1942 to December11, 1945 in the surgical department of the American Red Cross at Shepard Field airbase in Wichita Falls, Texas. She married Frank E. Cormia.
