Clark, Jeremiah III
- Born 1790. Died 8/29/1847. Son of Jeremiah JR. & Sarah Clark.
- Wife, Phoebe Holdridge. Born 8/6/1791. Died 8/9/1838.
- Children: Edwin G., born 4/8/1815; Darwin F., born 6/6/1816, died 1841; Washington L., born 5/14/1818, died 1854; Milton H., born 1/13/1820; Newton J., born 10/18/1821; Phoebe J., born 11/13/1825.
- Jeremiah III served in the War of 1812. In 1831 he came to Detroit from New York state opening a bakery & grocery store there before coming to Clarkston. In 1838 Jeremiah III &, brother, Nelson W. Clark purchased the Clarkston sawmill property of Butler Holcomb. They built a grist mill by 1839. Jeremiah III planted the first apple trees in the area & built a sawmill on the shore of Crooked Lake. Jeremiah III was Independence Township Supervisor, 1838-39 & 1843-44, Justice of the Peace in 1845 and a representative in the State Legislature in 1838 & 1841.
