This building was constructed 1926/27 for the Seeterlin Brothers, Joseph and Edwin, as a Chevrolet /Oldsmobile dealership. They had a service/gasoline station to the west, on the corner of South Main St. and East Church St. (The gas station was on Lot 10 of Block 1, the property in 1850 of Washington Clark, son of Jeremiah Clark III, one of Clarkston's founding fathers. 1859 tax records cited a house, barn and shop on the property, owner Lucy Clark. (See 32 S. Main for further discussion of that property.) In 1949 Independence Township purchased this building for $15,000 for use as Independence Township Fire Hall Number One. It remained so until 1996 when it was sold to Richard Morgan who expanded his service/gasoline station at 32 S. Main. The alley to the east of the building was long held by the owners of the "Inn" at 24 S. Main, providing access to a barn.
